Having shown to us that she doesn't stay the longer trips when she made her seasonal debut in the Fred Darling at Newbury earlier this month, we took it on the chin and made the easy decision to keep HAPPY ROMANCE to sprinting.
We know she has bundles of ability and her work as been superb, so we were confident that in dropping back to six furlongs she ought to win the Listed Chelmer stakes at Chelmsford if everything went smoothly. As it happens, she had a nightmare run round getting squeezed out on the bend and losing her position and momentum. As a result, she had to go the long way around but despite all of this she stuck her head down, galloped to the line, and won well without too much fuss! Sean said she relished the pace of the race and will have an exciting season ahead in some big sprints on the turf.
Congratulations to the McMurray family who are continuing to have such a super time with this smart filly.
