Marenko Stamps Authority On Fred Darling

Sun 17 April 2016

It was fifty years ago to the exact date, the Greenham meeting was cancelled due to heavy snow. Although it wasn’t snow this time, the rain stopped play at Newbury. With the meeting moving to Chelmsford the Richard Hannon team sent out three horses for the Guineas Trials.

The Cheveley Park owned MARENKO was sent off second favourite for the Fred Darling. Under Ryan Moore, the Exceed And Excel filly took a sit in behind the leader and turning for home never looked like getting beat. ‘I was confident from a long way out that she was going to win. She has come on a lot from her first run and she is turning into a very nice filly. She has now opened up more options for herself and I feel the Guineas whether it be here or Ireland are definitely within the realms of possibility’ said Richard. LIGHT UP OUR WORLD ran a nice second in the Fred Darling. The daughter of Zoffany was having her first run back this year, settling in behind Marenko she was strong late to fight off the favourite in a close finish for second place. ‘She is still not quite there yet in her coat and this being her first go this year, she will show plenty of improvement. It was a tough effort. I will get home and have a chat with the owner as to where we head next.’

A nice debut was made by a Helmet colt of Middleham Parks who goes by the name of KREBS CYCLE. He ran at Bath on Friday night and looked all out the winner till the dying strides of the race. ‘He’s a lovely horse who although looks like he will need further in time, has been showing me plenty of speed at home. He was always going to improve dramatically for the run and I feel he will be very hard to beat wherever he heads to next’ commented Richard. ‘He’s a stallion who has had four runners, three winners and a second, and looks to be very promising. There is a fantastic group of first season stallions this year, which is giving us plenty to look forward to.’
