The transfer of the trainers license in 2014 to Richard Hannon saw the end of an era as Richard Hannon Snr finished training after 43 years at the head of Herridge and Everleigh Stables. A career that saw 45 group one victories and numerous Royal Ascot winners, with a grand total of 4,145 winners, putting him above every other trainer in England of all time.
This week at the annual ROA lunch, he was awarded with the prestigious Chris Deuters Award for his contribution to horse racing. He has been a huge influence on the industry in so many ways. From producing champion racehorses which went on to be successful in breeding to apprentices who became champion jockeys. His influence with both bringing on young trainers through his system to bringing new owners into the game. His ability to keep an audience mesmerised with his stories and to bring entertainment with owners to a whole new level. He has been adored by the wider public for decades and will continue to do for a long long time. Although it's not his name on the license anymore, he is still very much a part of Richard Hannon Racing and continues to enjoy training alongside his son Richard.
Richard said after the lunch 'I am honoured to receive such a prestigious award. I am very grateful to the industry that has been my life and I look forward to many more days at the races'
