We had a busy day at Wolverhampton on Saturday with six runners and were rewarded with a couple of good winners.
Michael Pescod’s Urban Icon was making his all-weather debut in the Lady Wulfruna Stakes – a listed race and a Fast Track Qualifier. He won by a comfortable ¾ of a length under Ryan Moore, this was his first win since his two year old days despite a number of good runs in high class races last season. This win has qualified him for the all-weather finals at Lingfield on Good Friday and all being well this could be the next option for him ahead of the turf season.
In the next race Haayem sprung a surprise to win under Luke Catton for Al Shaqab Racing at a massive 80/1. He went better the further he went and got up in the final strides to win by a neck. This was just his second start and it was a massive improvement. There will be plenty more to come from this son of Olympic Glory as he steps up in trip throughout the turf season.
