Danehill Proves Too Tough In Cumberland Lodge

Mon 09 October 2017

DANEHILL KODIAC and ELYSIUM DREAM brought home two legs of a very lucrative treble for the team on Saturday. The day kicked off at Redcar where SHUHOOD got the job done on the second time of asking for Hamdan Al Maktoum under a nice ride from Dane O'Neil. The son of Tamayuz was ridden with cover and pulled out late to take the prize. 'He has been a horse we always liked and I was a bit disappointed on his first start. He raced a touch keenly today but Dane did a good job in getting him as relaxed as possible. He won well there and hopefully with experience he will be even better again in time.'

The second winner was at Ascot in the Group 3 Cumberland Lodge Stakes with DANEHILL KODIAC showing his tenacity and strong will to keep his head in front up to the line. Sean Levey gave him a positive ride and got him rolling along way from home, getting the rest of the field off he bridle. He was still in front inside the final furlong and when he was challenged by the odds on favourite, who was a previous Group one winner, he managed to pull out a little bit more in the closing stages. 'He is very tough this horse and just keeps galloping. He is relentless and is proving hard to beat when ridden like that. He is a lovely horse for next year and appears in a great frame of mind. There is a Group 3 at Newbury in a few weeks time so we will see how he is before possibly heading there.'

The final winner of the three came under Tom Marquand for the Racing Cricketers. ELYSIUM DREAM was away well and into stride. She was settled behind the leaders on the far side and once asked to quicken she went away powerfully in the final furlong. 'She is a filly I have always had a soft spot for and she tries so hard. She was unlucky last time getting a few traffic problems but she won impressively there and is a nice filly for next year.'

Today's action has been from Windsor, Pontefract, Kempton and Salisbury
