Saturday at Sandown was lit up by the victory of LIGHT UP OUR WORLD. The daughter of the talented Zoffany went off at 20/1 for this appearance in the Coral Distaff Stakes over a mile. This Listed contest has been won in previous years by horses such as Integral who went on to Group One success. Pat Dobbs sent her off in front setting an even tempo from the get go. She travelled well in what was soft ground and picked up nicely from the two furlong pile to extend her advantage. The favourite was the only horse to make any impression and was always struggling to get to her. ‘She ran a nice race at Chelmsford in the Fred Darling behind Marenko, but I was disappointed in her subsequent runs. She did however look fantastic in the preliminaries today and I am delighted she could win for Derek (Boocock). He has had a lot of faith in this filly and I couldn’t be happier that she repaid him today.’
At Nottingham we had a couple of seconds, with PATENT of the queens running nicely on handicap debut. He travelled nicely throughout and picked up well, just running into one on the day. ‘I think he will be right there on his next start. He also looks like he will appreciate further in time.’ BIGGER AND BETTER was the other horse who couldn’t quite get his head in front, going down by a nose.
At Leicester, LUDUAMF a son of Tamayuz got the job done in impressive style. Hollie Doyle was in the saddle and confidently put him right there, and then he stretched clear of the field.
A quiet day today with the just the one runner at Windsor. MAJESTE makes his debut in what looks a hotly contested two year old race over six furlongs. ‘He has been showing plenty at home and I hope that he can overcome inexperience and run a nice race. The horse of Clive Coxs was well backed at Bath and only went down by a very narrow margin. If he finds the necessary improvement then he should be hard to beat. I am confident my horse is very nice but I will expect him to improve upon what ever he does tonight.’
