Malvern (Rossa Ryan)
He’s a real flashy looking colt by Outstrip who has won both his starts, although what he’s beaten is questionable but the fourth home in his Chepstow race came out and won nicely at Lingfield the other day so there could be some substance to it and he can only beat what he’s up against so hopefully there is even more to come. This is obviously a big step up but his work is very good and he has a lovely attitude therefore I see no reason why he can’t go well of 86 on ground that will be fine.
Hard Nut (Ryan Moore)
I really like this colt and think there could be improvement in him. He scored at Newbury under a penalty and then wasn’t disgraced in a good race at Goodwood last time behind Homespin. We’re much better off at the weights with him this time round so there is every reason to suggest that form can be reversed and he has plenty of experience which is valuable in a race of this nature. We have managed to secure Ryan Moore which is an added bonus and I expect him to go very well.
Separate (Andrea Atzeni)
There’s not much of her but she handles her racing really well and has posted some good efforts already this season, not least finishing sixth in the Super Sprint and winning at Lingfield. Whether there is much improvement I can’t say but she is very tough and doesn’t mind getting into a battle so I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see her run a decent race.
As you can see, we’ve a relatively quiet Wednesday at York but we have a few runners elsewhere and I quite like the chances of D Day in the Novice Stakes at Kempton (5:45). Falconidae showed plenty of pace at Newmarket last time so I’m hoping the drop back to 5f will see her in a much better light in the Maiden at Bath (2:15).
Mums Tipple may run in the Sales race on Thursday at York and we’re almost certain to let Threat take his chance in the Gimcrack on Friday. Raymond Tusk heads the squad on Saturday in the Ebor.
