As most of you will know, I am a @unibetracing ambassdor and I will be writing daily blogs during the York Ebor Festival. Below are my thoughts on the horses heading to post on
Day 1
2:25 G3 Acomb Stakes
Watan (Oisin Murphy)
We had to take our time with him early on because he suffered from sore shins, but thankfully our patience has been rewarded and he won very nicely on debut at Goodwood. I think he’s improved a lot for that outing and the step up in trip will really suit. His work has always been good, and I’d like to think we’ll have plenty of fun with him as he’s a very exciting horse to have in the yard. Oisin had a sit on him last week and liked what he saw, so it’s hard to knock his chance in this. The ground will be absolutely perfect, and he could be the real deal. He’s entered in all the big 2-y-o races and is an extremely talented animal.
4:50 Nursery
Moyassar (Jim Crowley)
We really fancied him at York on his debut but he got beaten a nose, which was very frustrating and then I don’t think he quite stayed 7f after that, so we dropped him back in trip and he duly obliged at Chelmsford, before getting beaten in a tactical race last time, when the winner (in receipt of 6lbs) stole a few lengths at the start and we were never able to land a blow. He’s learning with every run and this type of race will really play to his strengths. The ground isn’t an issue and I can see him running a very big race with Jim Crowley back on board.
Ginger Nut (Oisin Murphy)
Her big pay day was in the Super Sprint, so she owes us absolutely nothing after picking up over £122,00 first prize but she’s not done with yet and still has plenty more races in her. She was probably a little too far back at Newmarket last time and then found some trouble, so could never quite reel in the eventual winner, who was receiving 12lbs from us. I think she stayed 6f last time and this flatter track will help as well. She’s a tough and battle-hardened filly who is in great form at home and should run another huge race.
